CBRN stands for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear. It is a broad term for hazardous agents and incidents in those four categories. The correct respiratory protection still depends on the specific hazard, concentration, equipment configuration, and conditions of use.

A tight-fitting full-face mask seals directly against the face. In a passive configuration, the wearer draws air through the filter; a compatible powered-air blower can provide assisted airflow when the system is designed for it. A PAPR hood covers the head and uses a blower to move filtered air through a compatible filter and hose. Full-head hoods that do not rely on a face seal can be practical for many users with beards or regular eyeglasses.

The 4A1 is the adult-size Israeli civil-defense full-face mask in our range and is listed for ages 15 and up. Age is only a starting point: correct sizing, condition, and a reliable facial seal still matter. Facial hair or eyeglass temples that cross the sealing surface can interfere with the seal.

The Sapphire is a full-head powered-air hood currently listed for ages 13 and up. Because it does not depend on the same tight face seal as a conventional full-face mask, it can be useful for many people with beards or regular eyeglasses and for users who prefer powered airflow. A powered-air blower moves filtered air through the system and can reduce breathing resistance compared with drawing air through a passive filter. It may be useful for longer wear or for users who find breathing through a filter difficult. Powered airflow does not replace correct assembly, the correct filter, battery and airflow checks, or a reliable face seal when the system uses a tight-fitting mask.

A beard that crosses the sealing surface can prevent a tight-fitting mask from sealing reliably. For a bearded wearer, use a protective system designed to work without a tight face seal, such as an appropriate full-head PAPR hood. See our beard-compatible protection options.

Yes. Even short facial hair in the sealing area can interfere with the facepiece-to-skin seal. If the sealing surface cannot be kept clean-shaven, use a system designed to work without a tight face seal.

Ordinary eyeglass temples can pass through the sealing area of a tight-fitting full-face mask and interfere with the seal. Do not assume that standard eyeglasses are compatible. A full-head hood can accommodate many regular eyeglasses without placing the frames through a face seal.

No. The 4A1 and 10A1 are still tight-fitting full-face masks. Adding a compatible powered-air blower can reduce breathing resistance, but correct sizing and a reliable facial seal are still required.

Follow the fitting and user-check instructions for the exact mask. The facepiece should sit correctly without hair, eyewear, clothing, or other objects crossing the sealing surface. Inspect the facepiece, valves, straps, and connections before use. If you cannot obtain a reliable fit, do not rely on that mask.

Yes. Practice assembly, donning, strap adjustment, communication, battery and airflow checks, drinking-system use where applicable, and safe removal in a clean environment. Keep emergency filters sealed until needed unless the manufacturer’s instructions specifically call for a different practice procedure.

Our current product listings use the following age ranges: baby protection for ages 0–2, the powered child hood for ages 2–8, youth-size 10A1 mask options for ages 8–14, and adult-size 4A1 mask options for ages 15 and up. Because the listed ranges meet at ages 2 and 8, check the exact product information and fit guidance for a child near either boundary. Age alone does not guarantee fit.

Babies and young children may not be able to use a conventional tight-fitting face mask reliably. The baby and child systems use a full-head hood with powered airflow and do not depend on the same facial seal as a standard gas mask. A responsible adult must assemble, check, and supervise the system.

No. The powered full-head hood does not depend on the tight face seal required by a conventional full-face mask. It still needs to be correctly assembled, positioned, and operated according to its instructions, with the airflow path unobstructed.

Yes. Emergency respiratory protection should be assigned to each person who may need it, with the required components kept together. Sharing one system between multiple children is not a practical plan when they may need protection at the same time.

A responsible adult should read the instructions and supervise practice in a clean environment. Practice putting the equipment on, checking position and airflow, communicating, using drinking or feeding features where applicable, and removing the equipment safely. Keep batteries and required accessories available with the system.

PAPR stands for Powered Air-Purifying Respirator. A battery-powered blower draws ambient air through a compatible filter and moves the filtered air into the wearer’s breathing zone through a mask or protective hood. A PAPR is an air-purifying system; it is not a supplied-air respirator.

No. Air-purifying masks and PAPRs filter the surrounding air; they do not create or supply oxygen. They must not be treated as protection for oxygen-deficient atmospheres or for every unknown environment.

These terms are used in connection with the common 40mm threaded respirator interface. EN 148-1 / Rd40 identifies the threaded connection used by compatible masks, filters, hoses, and PAPR components in our range. STANAG 4155 is commonly referenced for NATO interoperability. Thread compatibility describes a connection; by itself, it is not a protection rating or product certification.

No. Matching thread size is only one part of compatibility. You also need to consider the exact thread standard, the contaminants the filter is intended for, filter condition and expiration, airflow resistance, and the requirements of the mask or PAPR system. Bayonet and proprietary connectors are not the same as an EN 148-1 / Rd40 threaded port.

Use a compatible 40mm threaded filter that is suitable for the intended hazard and the exact system. The Israeli M80 40mm filter is one of the main NBC/CBRN filters offered with our Israeli mask and PAPR kits. Always check the filter page and product instructions rather than choosing by thread alone.

Keep unopened filters sealed in their original packaging and follow the storage conditions and expiration information marked on the filter or supplied documentation. Protect stored filters from moisture, excessive heat, direct sunlight, chemicals, and physical damage. Inspect the package before relying on a stored filter.

There is no single operating time that applies to every situation. Service life depends on the exact contaminant, concentration, humidity, airflow, breathing rate, and other conditions. Follow the filter manufacturer’s instructions and any applicable change schedule; do not treat unopened shelf life as operating life.

Replace a filter when required by its instructions, when it is expired, damaged, or contaminated, after an exposure when the instructions call for replacement, or when a safe remaining service life cannot be established. Do not rely on smell or taste alone as a warning system.

Eligible items may be returned within 30 days of receiving the order if they are in the same condition as received, unworn or unused, with tags, in the original packaging, and accompanied by proof of purchase. The buyer is normally responsible for return shipping costs. Under the current Refund Policy, that does not apply when the item is defective or damaged and the return is handled under the applicable damage process. Mandatory statutory rights may also apply depending on your location.

Inspect the order when it arrives. If an item is damaged, defective, or incorrect, contact office@cbrnmasks.com immediately. The current Refund Policy asks customers to report defective or damaged items within 48 hours of receipt and include clear photo and video evidence. This reporting request does not remove mandatory rights that may apply under local law.

Our current Refund Policy handles exchanges by returning the original eligible item first and then purchasing the replacement separately once the return is accepted. Contact us before returning anything.

After a return is received and inspected, we will notify you whether the refund is approved. Approved refunds are processed to the original payment method within 10 business days. Your bank or card provider may take additional time; the policy asks you to contact us if more than 15 business days have passed since approval.
